(If your questions are not answered below, please see the FAQ page for much more information.)

  • To make a reservation, please submit a Reservation Request to discuss dates and details of your trip. Please help us by outlining the style of trip you are most interested in, details about your group, your timeframe of availability, and the number of days you’d like to visit. Jessie or Ian will be emailing you back to start the conversation and help you plan your trip. You can email directly to info@diamond4ranch.com, but please provide as much detail as possible to help us get the conversation started.

Once we have confirmed availability with you, we will direct you through the 3-Step Reservation Process which can be found in the “HOW TO BOOK A TRIP” portion on the specific webpage of the style of trip you are doing (Spot Pack Trip, Guided Pack Trip, Mountain Ranch Vacation or any Specialty Trip). These are the three steps: 1. Submit Reservation Form 2. Sign Digital Liability Waiver 3. Pay a 25% Deposit online. Once ALL members of your party have completed these 3 steps, your trip is officially confirmed!

Balance is due 14 days before arrival. Once you have paid the deposit online, we will confirm the remaining balance with you over email and give you the link to the online platform for the remaining balance to be paid. This applies to all trips except Spot Pack Trips as the total cost depends on the number of horses used. SPOT PACK TRIP GUESTS: Please bring check or cash to pay your remaining balance upon arrival.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to our off-the-grid location, we are unable to take credit cards or process Venmo payments at the ranch. For gratuity and gift store purchases, please plan to bring cash or check. Thanks!

  • We ask for a 25% Deposit to book your trip, which is non-refundable. Balance is due 14 days before arrival for all trips except Spot Pack Trips, which will be paid upon arrival. Early departures are non-refundable.

Because we are located at 9,200ft with less than 3 months to operate our business, we have a precious window of time to make a living - every day counts. It takes a lot of planning, and we work extremely hard during our “on-season” in order to help care for our herd of 100 horses throughout the entire year. Thank you for understanding our limitations behind this policy.

If you’d like to purchase trip insurance, we suggest Travel Guard, which is recommended by the Dude Ranchers Association.

  • Please arrive at the mountain ranch at 4:00 pm to be checked into your lodging arrangement. Dinner is at 6:00 pm. If you know your group will arrive late, please try to contact us. We will keep dinner warm for you!

  • ELEVATION: Our ranch is located at 9,200ft, and we ride on trails up to 11,500ft. If you have any health concerns that may be affected by elevation, please consult with your physician before booking. We suggest drinking plenty of fluids before arrival to stay hydrated and bringing any medication you normally use.

PHYSICAL FITNESS: Riding a horse does not mean you are simply “sitting” all day. We ride on rugged, sometimes steep, mountain trails that require strength, balance, and consistent engagement. If you need to get off and hike along the trail to stretch your legs, please be prepared for hiking on rocky trails with varied footing (all while at a high elevation.)

MEDICAL CONDITIONS: If you have any medical concerns that may affect your experience while in the backcountry, please inform us ahead of time. Please list ALL relevant information and concerns on your Reservation Form. Along with medical conditions, this could include joint issues or replacements, etc. Thank you! We will do our very best to support you and prioritize your well-being in the nature of our environment.

  • NO TROTTING/LOPING: We always ride our horses at a walk for the safety of all guests and for high-altitude and footing considerations for the horses. We will be riding on rugged trails through varied terrain. We prioritize consistency and quality horsemanship with our animals. Knowing that people of all ages/experience levels may be riding our horses, we teach the horses to always keep it at a walk. Enjoy the solitude and alpine beauty along the trail!

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Prior riding experience is very helpful for your own comfort and balance, and your horse will appreciate it too. Even if you are very new to riding, we strongly encourage you to take lessons or go on trail rides before arriving. For our long rides on wilderness pack trips, you could be in the saddle up to 8 or 9 hours, so prior experience will not only help your mind prepare, it will also prepare your body!

  • Our weight limit for riders is 250 lbs for the safety of our guests and the concern for our horses.

  • The required age is 6 years old for riders.

  • The health and safety of our guests and staff is our highest priority, and ask for everyone’s help with following CDC and State guidelines while at the ranch and on trips. Practice social distancing and prevention of Covid-19 exposure before arrival and during travel; wear a mask traveling through airports, on airplanes, or other public transportation.

If exposed to Covid-19 in the last 14 days, or have any symptoms of illness, do not come to the Diamond 4 Ranch or go on your scheduled trip. If one becomes ill while at the ranch or on the trip, they will be advised to wear a mask, self-isolate, and go down to Lander, closer to medical facilities and testing.

  • CAN I BRING MY DOG?: No dogs at the ranch, please. With 100 horses at the ranch and various trips coming and going, the risk of dogs spooking our animals and causing trouble is too high. We love dogs, but please keep yours at home.

SMOKING: No smoking at the ranch, or in any of our facilities, please. The risk of starting a wildfire is always a concern in the national forest.

ALCOHOL: The ranch does not provide alcohol. Please bring your own, if you would like.
